This project is dedicated to all those precious people who promptly and thoroughly lose their shit every time someone mentions AoS. I love you guys. :*
I noticed that certain members of the mordheim FB group get very rude and insulting whenever AoS is mentioned. It made the group not a friendly place to view and share ideas.
The worst thing is, I don't know whether they're trolling for the sake of it (and their own amusement) or whether they genuinely take umbrage with AoS as a whole system...
I don't know what's going on inside their heads, but what I see coming out of them is bewildering to witness. It's definitely more sad than amusing, but sometimes I read something so ridiculous I can't help but laugh...
What about respect eachother and not talk about aos in a Warhammer/Mordheim group like an aos group wouldn't not like posts about square bases and Whfb?
Indeed, it's really not all that difficult to understand if you're making a genuine effort rather than just grasping for reasons to declare yourself superior. Not that someone who goes to the trouble of converting something to troll people was ever going to make a genuine effort to understand anyone.
I can recall quite a few AoS fans impatiently(and then aggressively) demanding people on forums/groups that had been WHF but had switched over to AoS stop talking about WHF and go away. I can also recall the very firm stance taken on the INQ28 FB group about eliminating content they feel "doesn't belong". I wonder if Domining Cummings is an AoS fan? They certain share that "one rule for me..." attitude.
It feels here like you're labouring under a few assumptions that are incorrect.
First is that I'm some kind of hardcore fan of AoS. From all the stuff I'm doing to its fluff and models, to how much I use the official rules, it's hard for me to imagine why you would think that.
Second is that I dislike pre-AoS Warhammer. I like a lot of it and the rest I don't really care for. It's like if you like one you gotta hate the other.
Third is that I somehow approve posting AoS material in Old World FB groups, but disaprove of the reverse. A FB group has its theme, and the people managing the group set the rules. If you post stuff that doesn't belong there, it gets deleted. Makes perfect sense. I post my Mordheim stuff in the Mordheim group, my AoS stuff in the AoS group, my Inq28 stuff in the Inq28 group, and my miscellaneous stuff in none of the above.
My problem is not with Warhammer, or Warhammer fans as a whole, or Facebook groups. My problem is with shitty attitude of individuals.
Nice Oldhammer look.... of course for me it all went tits up when Citadel switched to slotta bases. Anything after 1984 is Newhammer as far as I'm concerned. But putting it in perspective, they are only little toy men and it's only a game for Gawd's sake.
Great work. The entire execution is wonderful. The somewhat wonky, stunted look. The Goblin Green square base. The blue faded backdrop as if it was lifted from an old Army Book.
I saw this on facebook, reddit, 4chan, every wargaming-related place, discussing the high and lows of AoS like crazy ;) You knew how to hit some people where they feel it! Great job creating the miniature and presenting it in such a convincing way (besides the modelling side, I love the badly cropped name!) - a very surprising and cool project from you :)
Losing the Old World wounded many; and some wounds heal slowly, if they ever heal at all. AoS was, to it's detriment, the product of the Old World's death. So many a individual's dislike towards the system and setting is understandable. That said, they could and should be polite about it.
PS - Realized that I forgot to comment anything about the miniature in my previous comment, and thought that was just being rude. It looks very good. I wonder if anyone will make a 'Oldcast Hammternal army' project. Seeing a unit/army of that would be interesting.
Thanks! Yeah, I'd love to see an army of these, too. I've done what I meant to do with the concept and I'm not likely to come back to it, but perhaps someone else will pick it up and expand on it.
I have nothing against people disliking AoS. It's not my setting, I'm not a huge fan of it. Hell, there's plenty I myself don't like about it (I think that's evident from the way I approach it). What I'm absoultely not ok with is the shitty behaviour exhibited by a number of individuals who feel the need not only to dump on the setting itself, but on hobbyists who choose to engage with it creatively. Devaluing the hard and clever work of others just because they enjoy something you don't... what the hell kind of mindset is that?
I also now realize that deleting a comment doesn't remove it entirely. I had wanted to delete the first post, when I realized I had made no comment on the miniature itself. Apologies.

ReplyDeleteThe worst thing is, I don't know whether they're trolling for the sake of it (and their own amusement) or whether they genuinely take umbrage with AoS as a whole system...
it's probably genuine in many cases.

ReplyDeleteThat's not oldhammer, it's ancienthammer
Deleteaka Prehammer. Any other sorts of Hammer out there? (sorry to hijack the blog Ana). Dadhammer and Skinthammer are used in my house/group as well.
DeleteNo problem, any civil discussion is welcome here.
DeleteVery clever! The washed out look of the image really seals the deal.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I wanted to go all the way with presentation.
DeleteSomeone over on 4chan likes your work, there's a bunch of people arguing about this exact picture. It's quite funny. Great work, looks really good!
ReplyDeleteHaha, thanks!
Deleteoh god link it
DeleteHa! That is brilliant, both in concept and execution.
ReplyDeleteThank you! :)
Deletethe goblin green, it haunts me, it preys and lurks at the edges of my memory
ReplyDeletePTSD appart, i love the clever troll and the realisation, flawless
:D
DeleteThanks!
Ha! Great trolling.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeletePure genius!! The concept, the execution, the pic itself! Oh, large applause!! :D

ReplyDeleteThank you! It's spread around, hasn't it. It's fun to observe all the different reactions it provoked.
DeleteFantastic! The poorly cropped name is the cherry on top. Well done.
ReplyDeleteThank you! :)

Yeah, that's not cool. You shouldn't dump on other people's hard work or be mean to them.
