LXXXIII. The Cemetery Project vol.3

Done a bit of painting last week and now two of my mausoleums are finished. Unfortunately, I haven't got any work-in-progress pictures of this because my only camera was away on a business trip the entire week. However, I have one last unpainted mausoleum, so I still have a chance to do a step-by-step tutorial.

In order to get colour scheme ideas and to be able to get the weathering right I searched the web for pictures of old cemeteries. Among other things, I ran into this website, Spyderwood.com, that has a collection of photos from a number of Brittish and American cemeteries. As far as I understand, the site is mainly about crafting various Halloween props. The author has collected the graveyard pictures for inspiration.

  1. Those look great - the vases really finish them off nicely, and the weathering is fantastic.

  2. Ana, you've done some amazing work on these and it's inspired me to re-look at my own Morr stuff to perhaps do likewise.

Those urns and jars are a very nice touch.

  3. Lovely looking finished pieces, Ana! I eagerly await your tutorial! Another game I've been using for references for my own Project plans is Bloodborne. These terrain pieces would not look out of place there either. You should give it a look if you haven't already.

    1. I saw some gameplay videos and trailers for Bloodborne last year when a friend recommended it to me. I've forgotten about it since. Now I'm making a graveyard, so it might be good to go back to it and take a look at the architecture there again. Thanks for reminding me!

  4. Looks great Ana!

A humble suggestion would be some a small naked tree or shrub on the second one - it would add to the creepy mood of the piece.

    1. Thanks, Vader! :)
A shrub, you say? I'll do a little mockup and see how it works.

  7. Excellent, moody painting! The weathering on the roofs is outstanding.
Love the addition of the vases. (Do I hear echos of Diablo in them?)
I agree with the others, a creepy graveyard tree would be a great addition.

    1. Thanks! :) Yes, I nicked the urns from Diablo III. I'm guessing you missed the post before this one; that's where I confess the fact and explain how I did it.

  10. Very nice, the subtle changes and additions improve the kit a lot. I'd love to see some cobwebs.

    1. Thanks, Bruticus! :)

Well, cobwebs seem to me like more of an indoor thing. They would be a great detail to add to some hard-to-reach corners of a crpyt's interior, for example. But seeing webs draped over these mausoleums would make me think giant spider infestation. There is also a problem of them being easy to damage (not as much during gameplay as in storage and transport), and on these particular pieces I don't think cobwebs would last very long.

  11. They look amazing, without knowing beforehand they were GW models, I would never have recogenised them
